HISTORY OF KARNAL
Karnal has a very rich history. It is believed that the city was founded by Karna, the son of Kunti, and Surya Dev (the Sun God in Hindu mythology). He was one of the most important characters of the Mahabharata. But in the year 1739, Muhammad Shah was defeated by Nadir Shah and the city started blooming. In 1805, the city couldn't save itself from the horrors of the British empire. The British made the city a cantonment and a fort previously built by Jind's Raja Gajpat Singh became a residence to Dost Mohammed Amir of Kabul.
