Rishikesh is a tiny town in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district, near Haridwar, situated in the himalayan foothills along the confluence of the Ganga and Chandrabhaga Rivers. Rishikesh (also referred as Hrishikesh) is the "Yoga Capital of the World" and is noted for its adventure activities, old temples, and renowned cafes. Rishikesh has become a centre of Sadhus (saints) due to its location on the sacred banks of the Ganga, with various ashrams preaching spirituality, yoga, mindfulness, and Ayurveda cropping up. Non-vegetarian food and alcohol are strictly prohibited in this devout town. Rishikesh hosts the most stunning nightly aarti along the Ganga, which is not as overcrowded as its counterparts in Varanasi and Haridwar. In the first week of March, the International Yoga Festival takes place here, attracting yoga practitioners from all over the world. Rishikesh is separated into two main areas: the city center, recognized as Rishikesh town, and the Triveni Ghat, which is a renowned tourist attraction. The other side of Rishikesh, 2 km upstream from the famed Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula, seems to be where the popular ashrams, eateries, lodging, and tourists can be found. The towns of Haridwar and Rishikesh will be the first in India to be designated as "twin national historic cities."

EDUCATION IN RISHIKESH

Uttarakhand has a literacy rate of 79.63 percent, making it India's 17th most literate state. The state's literacy rate differs between males and females. According to the 2011 census, male and female literacy rates are 80.33 percent and 70.70 percent, respectively. When comparing the literacy rates of the state's several districts, Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Pauri Garhwal come out on top. The state is bound under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009,' which mandates free education for children aged 6 to 14. Along with professional courses, Uttarakhand's government and private institutions provide degree programmes in science, arts, and commerce. Annual school dropout rates in Uttarakhand vary at various levels, according to data from the District Information System for Education (DISE) for 2015-16. The primary school dropout rate in Uttarakhand is 8.16 percent. Males drop out at a rate of 10.05 percent in upper primary, while females drop out at a rate of 12.06 percent.
